“We didn’t let our guard down today”

Asan Woori Bank defeated Incheon Shinhan Bank 72-52 in the third round of the Woori Bank Woori WON 2023-2024 Women’s Professional Basketball League at Incheon Dowon Gymnasium on Nov. 11. It was the first double-digit win in the 2023-2024 season. Woori Bank improved to 10-1 on the season.

Kim Dan-bi (180 cm, F) paced Woori with 27 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and one blocked shot in 36 minutes and 17 seconds. Along with Park Ji-hyun (182 cm, G), she filled in for Park Hye-jin (179 cm, G), who left the game with a knee injury.

Kim said, “I felt sorry for the players because I was sent off for five fouls in the second round against Shinhan Bank three days ago, but we held on until the end. So, I felt less sorry. Shinhan Bank is a strong team in the beginning. We couldn’t afford to get swept. We prepared to play at our own pace from the beginning,” he said.

“We let our guard down in the last game. Shinhan Bank is the bottom team, and we didn’t have our ace (Kim Sonia). Every player had a little bit of ‘we’re going to win’ in their minds, and when it all came together, we didn’t play well. We didn’t let our guard down today. We showed our colors,” she added.

In the post-match press conference, Woori Bank head coach Lee Sat-woo emphasized that the players should give their best every game. What does Kim Dan-bi, who is in her 17th season as a professional, think?

“I’m human, too. I can’t be 100% awake and alert for 30 games in the regular season. I’m also in my 17th year in the pros. I’ve been first, I’ve been last. You can’t give your best in every game. You can’t be at your best in every match, and then you start to think, ‘Let’s take a break,’ and you have to get out of that mindset quickly. It’s important to find your pace.”

“We have two free agents on the team. Unlike me, I want them to stay at home. My home is the best place,” he concluded the press conference.
