The elite course of ‘Cho Sung-won’s Shooting School’ has begun in earnest, what are the students’ reactions?

Former head coach Cho Sung-won was a representative shooter in the KBL. Despite his short stature, he was nicknamed the “kangaroo shooter” for his resilience and precision. After retiring as a player, he worked as a coach in the KBL, WKBL, and university.

He was the head coach of Changwon LG for two seasons, starting in the 2020-2021 season. Since then, he has been reaching out to basketball players with his ‘Cho Sung-won Shooting School’ at JBJ Basketball Classroom in Gangnam, Seoul. On the 22nd of this month, a shooting school for elite players was held. Six players attended the class for the first time. Kim Soo-hyun of Sungui Girls‘ Middle School, Han Seul-ah of Sunil Girls’ Middle School, Cho Ga-yul of Suwon First Middle School, Jung Si-yoon of Sookmyung Girls’ Middle School, Lee Soo-bin of Sookmyung Girls’ High School, and Jang Seo-yoon of Bundang Business School were the first students.

Cho gave the players a 50-minute lesson. He explained the players’ basic posture, how to use the lower body, fingertip sensation, and free throw routine in detail. He also provided different solutions to utilize the characteristics of each player.

“I felt that my shooting was wrong (laughs). I learned how to use my lower body, and I was very impressed with that part of the program. I hope to improve my shooting process and increase my shooting success rate through the eight-week course.”

Han Seul-ah from Sunil Girls’ Middle School said, “I felt like I shot better after taking the class. I learned how to use my lower body, how to push my hand all the way, and how to shoot in one beat.”

Cho Ga-ryul from Suwon Jeiljung said, “It was a very informative time. I realized that my shoulders were straining a lot when I was shooting, and I want to change that.” ‘I want to change these bad habits through the shooting class, and I want to become a good shooter,’ she said.

Jung Si-yoon from Sookmyung Women’s Middle School said, “When I shoot, I only shoot with my upper body. I knew it was bad, but I couldn’t fix it, but this time I want to change it. Besides that, I will try to shoot with a good posture. You switched to forward this season. I think this is a very good lesson for me as I need to attack the outside more.”

Sookmyung Women’s High School’s Lee Soo-bin said, “It was difficult to shoot in a single beat, but I improved as the coach taught me. (Laughs) In the future, I will learn rhythm and fix my shooting form through the class. I would like to improve that part through the shooting school.”
