THE 2027 WOMEN’S WORLD CUP BID IS A THREE-WAY TIE BETWEEN EUROPE, SOUTH AMERICA, AND NORTH AMERICA

The bid for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup has been finalized as a three-way tournament between Europe, South America and North America .FIFA announced on Sept. 9 (KST) that Belgium, the Netherlands-Germany, the United States-Mexico, and Brazil have officially submitted their bids for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. The deadline for submitting bids was set by FIFA on Aug. 8, so it’s now a three-way race. “Following an evaluation process that will include a site visit in February 2024, FIFA will announce the final host in May of that year, focusing on key indicators such as infrastructure, services, commercial viability, sustainability, and human rights, as well as fit with the tournament’s vision,” FIFA explained .The U.S. Soccer Federation issued a statement ahead of FIFA’s announcement, saying that “the U.S. and Mexico are in a unique position to utilize the same stadiums, infrastructure, and operational plans as the Men’s World Cup, which will be held a year before the tournament,” and that it would “not only showcase the commercial potential of women’s soccer, but send a message to young players around the world that anything is possible.”

The United States and Mexico, along with Canada, will host the 2026 Men’s World Cup. If the U.S.-Mexico alliance is successful in its bid for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, it will be the third time the United States has hosted the tournament, joining 1991 and 1999.South Africa was also expected to make a bid, but withdrew last month to focus on the 2031 Women’s World Cup, sports outlet The Athletic reported.
