Australian company Star Casino Entertainment Group was fined for the second time in two months. Two months ago, the Queensland state government punished Star Casino for violating the law. The company will have to pay a second A$100 million fine.

According to the Gotterson review, Star’s two Queensland casinos are not allowed to hold official state casino licenses. The casinos in question are Star Gold Coast and Treasury Brisbane.
The company will have to pay the fine for the next 12 months. But that’s not all. The company will hire “an independent special administrator with experience to monitor The Star’s operations in Queensland.”

Commenting on these allegations, Pentiman said, “The Queensland Casino must operate with integrity and it is clear that there have been significant failures by the star group and the organization.”
“Like many Queenslanders, I was appalled by the act of Star welcoming those excluded from casinos and the excessive incentives offered to dubious gamblers.”
Queensland’s special manager will be Nicholas Weeks, the very person appointed to lead the star’s casino in NSW.
Pentiman further explained that having a special manager to monitor all operations at The Star’s casino would ensure consistency in two jurisdictions and make it look like the same casino.
Fentiman and Weeks, in a joint effort, can correct the casino’s problems and move in the right direction, which may delay or even cancel the license suspension altogether.
Chief Commissioner Philip Crawford of NSW Independent Casino issued a statement on the latest incident. He said he agreed to appoint Mr Weeks as special manager for both casinos, adding: “Appointing Mr Weeks as special manager for Queensland will further support our continued collaboration with Queensland regulators.”
