Bali’s Chicago Casino at Medina Temple

After delaying the original opening date of the temporary casino, Bali’s temporary casino at Medina Temple on 600 N. Wabash Avenue in Chicago’s River North neighborhood opened to the public on September 9, 2023. Illinois Gaming Commission limits operation of temporary facilities to two years. Bali may reportedly have an option to extend another 12 months, allowing casino operators to stay at Medina Temple for up to three years.

According to Bali, the three-story makeshift casino has nearly 800 slot machines and more than 50 table games. There are also two restaurants: a restaurant-style Medina bistro and an Asian street food noodle bar kitchen 888. The casino also has a full service bar and coffee bar and bash cafe on the first and third floors.

Although the makeshift casino does not have on-site accommodation, Bali partnered with The Royal Sonata Chicago River North, located at 505 N State Street, a block south of Bali Casino Chicago Medina Temple. The four-star boutique hotel has an indoor swimming pool and sun deck, as well as a 24-hour fitness center, full-service restaurant, terrace, bar/lounge, banquet hall, conference room and 8,150 square feet of conference space. It’s a 10-minute walk from Michigan Avenue and Chicago Riverwalk.

Bali’s temporary casino on the former site of Bloomingdale’s home store will operate until the company’s approximately $1.7 billion Chicago Casino Resort in Bali can be constructed on part of the Tribune Publishing Plant site as a planned permanent site in the River West area. The permanent casino resort development, which is expected to begin construction within July 2024 on Chicago Avenue and Halstead Street, will reportedly include casinos, food halls and restaurants, theaters and event spaces, museums and exhibition areas, and VIP areas. According to Bali, more than 10 acres of outdoor space will include a park for the community, which will feature a variety of programs, such as art fairs and farmers markets.
