Tottenham players thank Burnley after defeat → Arsenal fans furious

Tottenham players’ behavior has angered Arsenal fans.

“Tottenham will look to keep their hopes of Champions League football alive when they host Manchester City in midweek, but supporters of bitter rivals Arsenal have noticed some unusual behavior from the Gunners ahead of the match,” British media outlet Sports Bible reported on Wednesday.

Tottenham came from behind to win 2-1 against Burnley in the 37th round of the 2023/24 English Premier League (EPL) season at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England, on Nov. 11 (local time). The defeat confirmed Burnley’s relegation.

Burnley took the lead through Jakob Brunn Larsen, but Pedro Foro equalized in the first half. Burnley needed a win to keep their hopes of staying up alive, but Micky Vander Penn scored a late winner to end the game.

Tottenham is currently in fifth place in the league and has all but secured a spot in next season’s Europa League. Spurs are also competing with Aston Villa for the fourth Champions League spot, with Spurs trailing Villa by four points with two games remaining.

To have any chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League, Spurs must win both of their remaining matches and Villa must lose one of their final two matches and draw the other. Villa hosts Liverpool on Nov. 14 (ET), while Tottenham’s next game is at home against Man City on Nov. 15 (ET), which could end Guardiola’s title challenge.

While the game against Burnley wasn’t the final home game of the season, Tottenham players and their families staged a thank-you gesture after the full-time 사설토토 whistle. Arsenal fans were quick to point this out on social media, reminding their North London rivals that they still had a home game against Man City to look forward to.

“Don’t you have Man City on Tuesday, your season isn’t over yet,” one Arsenal fan wrote. “Is the season over now? Does that mean there are no important games left?” and “Arsenal fans have taken their hatred of Tottenham to the next level. Tottenham have another home game, but they decided to do a ceremony today,” and so on.

Arsenal’s victory over Man Utd moved them back into first place and tightened the title race. The title race between City and Arsenal is likely to go down to the final round, but if Tottenham were to beat the Gunners, it would be a different story.
