A shocking video has emerged of Brazilian soccer star Neymar (Al Hilal) being hit by popcorn thrown by a spectator.
“Neymar was struck in the head by popcorn thrown by an angry fan after Brazil’s shock draw with Venezuela in a World Cup qualifier,” the Daily Mail reported on Wednesday (June 13).
Brazil played Venezuela to a 1-1 draw in the third round of South American qualifying for the FIFA Confederations Cup North and Central America 2026 at the Arena Pantanal in 먹튀검증 Cuiaba, Brazil, on Wednesday.
Brazil opened the scoring in the fourth minute of the second half on a corner kick. Neymar’s corner kick was headed in by defender Gabriel Magalhaes (Arsenal), who rattled the Venezuelan net to open the scoring. Neymar’s assist on Magalhães’ goal was his fifth consecutive attacking point in A-Match.
However, Brazil couldn’t add to their lead and Venezuela equalized in the 39th minute with a fantastic bicycle goal from Eduard Bello (Mazatlan FC). It was such a fantastic equalizer that Brazilian captain Ederson (Manchester City) could only stare in disbelief.
That’s how the game ended, leaving FIFA’s third-ranked team with just a point after a 1-1 draw at home to 53rd-ranked Venezuela. On the same day, rivals Argentina defeated Paraguay 1-0 to top South American qualifying with 9 points (3 wins), while Brazil sits in second place with 7 points (2 wins, 1 draw).
While it’s still early in the qualifying process and it’s highly unlikely that Brazil will not qualify for the World Cup, the passionate Brazilian soccer fans were not happy with the outcome of the game. After the game, fans booed Brazil’s players for playing poorly against Venezuela, one of the weakest South American nations on home soil.
Neymar, Brazil’s top star, was the target of criticism despite his assist, and he attracted attention when he was hit by popcorn thrown by a spectator as he left the field and headed for the tunnel.
“As the Brazilians were leaving the field, whistles and boos were heard, and Neymar was hit by a fan’s dungeon popcorn bucket,” explained the Daily Mail. “He was about to enter the tunnel when he was struck by the popcorn and stopped, looking into the crowd to find the culprit,” the article continued.
“His Brazilian teammates tried to take him to the locker room, but an enraged Neymar shouted and accused someone, pointing his finger at the crowd.” “Eventually, before he could get any more angry, his teammates and coaches grabbed his jersey and dragged him into the tunnel,” he added.
Although the game against Venezuela ended in a draw, Neymar has been an ace for Brazil lately. Since scoring a goal and an assist in a 4-1 round of 16 win over South Korea at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, he has four goals and four assists in five games, including one against Venezuela.
Most notably, Neymar scored two goals and provided an assist in a 5-1 victory over Bolivia in the first round of South American qualifying for the World Cup on Sept. 9. Neymar then became Brazil’s all-time leading scorer in A-matches with his 78th and 79th goals, surpassing Pele’s 77 A-match goals.
After breaking Pele’s record and becoming the most prolific A-match goal scorer in Brazilian soccer history, Neymar also scored an assist in the second South American qualifier against Peru on March 13, helping Brazil to a 1-0 victory. He followed that up with an assist against 토토 Venezuela in the next game, giving Brazil five consecutive attacking points, but it didn’t meet the expectations of Brazilian fans who wanted a win.
Brazil now travels to Uruguay for their fourth South American qualifier on June 18. It will be interesting to see if Neymar, who was booed in the Venezuela game, can score a goal and lead the team to victory against Uruguay, which is considered a global soccer powerhouse along with Brazil and Argentina, beyond South America.
