‘Liverpool Super-Emergency’ Van Dijk Partner Likely Out Of Season With Crisscross Ligament Injuries

Global sports media “The Athletic” reported on the 7th (Korea time), “Liverpool defender Matip is not expected to play in the rest of the season due to a ruptured cruciate ligament.”

Liverpool beat Fulham 4-3 in the 14th round of the 2023/24 season of the English Premier League (EPL) at Anfield in Liverpool, England on Sunday. Liverpool had a 3-3 victory until the end of the second half, but Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the finishing goal to defeat Fulham in the 43rd minute of the second half.

Liverpool couldn’t fully smile despite winning against Fulham. It was because of Matip’s injury. He was replaced in the 21st minute of the second half when he complained of pain in his knee due to a collision with Willian. Instead of Matip, Ibrahima Konate was put in.

Coach Jurgen Klopp said in an interview, “It’s a cruciate ligament rupture. Unfortunately, the result was expected from the very first moment. It looked like that. I’m very unhappy, but that’s it.” Matip will undergo surgery before he starts rehabilitation. 안전놀이터

Matip’s injury is like a bolt out of the blue for Liverpool. Liverpool lost one central defender when Matip left. Now the only remaining center backs are Virgil van Dijk, Conate and Joe Gomez.

Matip wore the Liverpool jersey in July 2016 as a free agent. He recorded 11 goals and 6 assists in 201 matches for Liverpool in about seven years. Prior to suffering a cruciate ligament injury, he made 14 appearances. This long-term injury has kept Matip from being seen on the ground for a long time.
