It has been announced that Dudena, a lawyer published in Brazil’s Official Gazette of the Union, will take on the leadership role of the Office of Prize and Betting (SPA). Dudena’s appointment was signed by the Brazilian government’s chief of staff, Louis Costa.

Dudena’s new role is to be in charge of regulating betting in Brazil. Brazil is in the process of market regulation after President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva signed the bill 3,626/2023 in December last year.
Last week, the SPA and Brazil’s finance ministry announced new rules on gambling through the Normative Ordinance No. 615. Among the new rules are a rule that businesses cannot accept bets via credit cards or cryptocurrencies.
Brazil is currently in the process of introducing four-stage restrictions, which it expects to be completed by the end of July 2024. The first and ongoing phase will be the creation of payment, security and technology frameworks.
The second step will be for the SPA to publish its policies on fraud, including anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing strategies. The third step will focus on procedures for advertising, as well as technology and security aspects. Finally, the final step will focus on how the industry can contribute to socially responsible causes.
